Honda has officially revealed its plans to introduce a hybrid variant of the Civic compact car for the 2025 model year. The Civic hybrid will come in both sedan and hatchback configurations, featuring a powertrain derived from the larger Accord hybrid model. It’s important to note that these hybrid models will not supplant the existing gasoline-powered options. Instead, they will be available alongside the conventional versions when they are launched in 2024.
Honda’s strategy to introduce hybrid technology across its vehicle range will progress with the launch of the 2025 Civic Hybrid, available in both sedan and hatchback body styles. As part of Honda’s broader electrification initiative, which aims for a fully electric lineup by 2040, the expansion of hybrid options serves as a transitional step toward achieving this ambitious goal.
The 2022 Honda Civic Hybrid features an innovative e:HEV powertrain, integrating a high-energy lithium-ion battery and two compact, robust electric motors with a recently engineered 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine. This engine delivers an exceptional 41% thermal efficiency, on par with industry-leading standards, and incorporates a direct injection system that is finely tuned for swifter and more efficient combustion, resulting in increased torque production. The vehicle boasts a maximum power output of 135 kW and a peak torque of 315 Nm. The U.S. variant might feature enhanced power figures.
