I have been using the Steelbird SBA-3 R3K Classic open-face helmet (some may even call it a ladies helmet), for quite some time now and have been habituated to carrying it with me most of the time. Having used this helmet for almost a year I have realized some of the key features which I would like to discuss with you in detail. Let’s get started.
Design of the Steelbird SBA-3 R2K Classic Helmet-
The helmet comes with an open-face design which means the bottom of the helmet is open. The buckle of the helmet is of slider mechanism to enable it to fasten properly to the rider’s head. The overall design of the helmet is on the sporty side to as attract youngsters towards it. Given below are some of the images for your reference.
There are air vents on top of the helmet to provide sufficient heat dissipation. Also, the air vents can be opened and closed with the help of a knob. The color scheme is of the dual-tone type having a mix of red and black together. The visor given with the helmets is of clear type without any tinting. There is a small port on the left side of the helmet for using the helmet lock.
Comfort and Cushioning-
The best part of the helmet that I found was the ease of wearing it.
In day-to-day life, you can not expect someone to wear a racing helmet always as it is very cumbersome to wear those helmets. This ultimately leads to the riders not wearing helmets and risking their life.
This helmet being a half-face one enables us to wear it easily no matter how much shorter ride we are going on. You can easily carry it also in your hand. The mass of the helmet is around 900gms which makes it very easy to carry in your hand or backpack. The belt fastener is of slider mechanism unlike the D ring buckle seen in premium helmets.
The above picture can give you an idea of the cushion available in this helmet. As far as certifications are concerned the Steelbird SBA-3 R2K Classic Open Face Helmet comes with mandatory ISI certification.
Cons-
Below mentioned are some of the cons of the Steelbird SBA-3 R2K Classic open-face helmet.
- Open Face type design, although this can not be attributed as a con completely as it serves the purpose of increased comfort of wearing it (lack of this tends most people avoid wearing a helmet for shorter rides on daily basis), at the same time it exposes the chin area of the rider.
- D ring buckle fastener is not available in this helmet. Although in this price point most of the manufacturers are not offering this feature. But the addition of this is a welcome step toward the safety of the rider.
- Lack of washable cushioning.
